I had a “Post-it Note” experience. You know the story of the invention of the 3M Post-it Note, right? How it was created by accident? These Gluten-Free Almond Brown Butter Scones were created by accident, but turned out to be quite the opposite of disappointing.
According to Wikipedia, the generic name for the Fuyu persimmon tree is Diospyros, which comes from the ancient Greek words dios (διός) and pyros (πυρος). The translation from Greek to English means more or less “divine fruit” or “divine food.” Being a lover of the Fuyu Persimmon, this translation is pretty spot on.
I’ve found a new cheese to love this summer: Burrata – a fresh Italian cheese consisting of mozzarella cheese soaked in heavy cream. It is slightly sweet and milky. Of course this cheese will be delicious on pizza, or in a fresh garden salad, but because of Burrata’s mildly sweet flavor, I decided to substitute this Italian favorite for my usual go-to thick Greek yogurt on top of a fresh fruit salad.
Chai Spiced Banana Muffins made with Greek Yogurt and topped with a Bourbon Glaze
Made with Greek yogurt, these muffins are a solid choice for breakfast or snack time. Topped with a bourbon glaze makes them a little extra special for the adults.
I am a coffee lover as well as a lover of Nutella as well as a lover of cake. Therefore, Coffee-Nutella Swirl Pound Cake makes me very, very happy. I thought this was a perfect week to share this simple recipe, as here in Sacramento the local speciality coffee community is celebrating their dedication to quality, ethics and dedication in relations to all things coffee during Speciality Coffee Week.
St. Phanurius Cake
In the Orthodox Church, August 27 is dedicated to Saint Phanurius. The Orthodox faithful pray to this Saint to help them recover lost things such as car keys or a child’s favorite toy. Some even pray to this saint to help them find hope, faith or focus. As a thanks-offering the custom arose of baking a cake in his honor. This is my favorite recipe for a Fanouropita Cake, updated by making them into little bundt cakes and topping them with fresh local berries and organic crystallized ginger.
