On this day in 1821 and “Freedom or Death” became the motto of the Greek revolution against the Ottoman Empire. Greek Independence Day, a national holiday celebrated annually across Greece on March 25 commemorates the start of the War of Independence. Additionally, It coincides with the Greek Orthodox Church’s celebration of the Annunciation when Archangel Gabriel appeared to Mary and brought news that she would bear the son of God.

Greeks are a prideful bunch, and March 25 is our day. This is our Fourth of July, if you will. Schools and business in Greece are closed today as it is a national holiday. Parades and celebrations are happening all over Greece – from the largest cities to the tiniest villages. Food and drink will be joyfully consumed.

Don’t Knock it ’till You Try It

Frozen-Yogurt-10It may sound quite strange to add olive oil and flaky sea salt to frozen yogurt, however, please, please, please trust me on this. The flavor party happening in your mouth is seriously like Mardi Gras, Fourth of July, Greek Independence Day And New Year’s Eve at midnight all at once. (If you think this is a weird combination, try putting peanut butter on your Sloppy Joe sandwich. I’ve done it. It’s delicious. I know… I need help…)
